Working on My Fitness

Thought I might chronicle my journey towards fitness. That is sort of a funny way of saying I am trying to get fit this year and need to set some targets / goals in order to keep myself motivated and in a way some accountability for those goals.

    Current statistics:

  • Height: 194cm (6’4″)
  • Weight: 98kg
  • BMI: 26 kg/m (Over Weight)

While my BMI says that I am overweight I realise that BMI is more of statistical tool then an accurate measurement of a person’s health. My aim is not really to lose weight (though my BMI says that I could lose around 5kg) but to increase my level of fitness and I am sure the weight will come down as a result anyway.

So, if my aim is fitness then I need to set some fitness goals. i.e. speed, length, reps etc. So these are my goals (to start with anyway)

    Short Term

  • Exercise 3 to 4 times a week (+45min each);
  • Run 5kms none stop;
  • Swim 3kms (in 1km chunks); and
  • Ride Waterfall to Engadine the road less traveled (bush tracks).

    Ps. 5kms is a bloody long run for a short term goal!
