Life’s Lessons from Poker – Playing Fate
Poker (Texas hold’em poker) is mostly a game of decision making. Should I or shouldn’t I? Yes it involves luck and bluff, but in the end luck can only get you so fare and if you chance fate enough times it will eventually go against you.
They say the most important decision a person makes when playing poker is if they pay to see the flop or not. This decision is not always easy and it is very tempting to play fate because you never know the true value of the two cards in your hand until you see the flop. But if you play each hand through to the river you are playing fate or chance not playing your cards.
In life, similar to poker, we are often called to make decisions without all the available information. We are forced to make a best guess, an educated guess taken from our past experiences and knowledge. Some times the decision is correct sometimes it is not.
In retrospect I should have played that 2 because the river showed another three 2 cards. But at the time of the flop I wasn’t to know. It is learning and being comfortable in the earlier decision that is the hardest I think. Understanding that if you play fate, fate will go against you sooner or latter. So have faith in yourselve and be at ease if a decision you made in retrospect wasn’t correct.
